Showcasing Your Treasured Christmas Ornaments

For holiday decorating, most of us relish the ritual of unpacking our favorite treasures. Year after year, familiar pieces provide a sense of continuity and comfort. Christmas ornaments often have a lot of memories attached. Some are from when you were growing up, others were gifts, and some you found yourself. So when you can use them in a fresh way, they make everything special

Over the past 30 years a few ornaments have been collected… There’s the ones from Germany. Many designs are based on old molds, have traditional, shapes, and are hand blown. Therefore they will be treasured forever. I use these decorations as accent pieces on the tree, displayed in a bowl or on a plate, or I hang them from a light fixture.

Christmas ornaments, sun, moon, hearts, Tiffany boxes

Above are four of my most precious ornaments. All are hand blown in Germany. The sun and moon I found in a shop while on vacation in Berlin. I love practical souvenirs. These four have adorned corners of our home for probably twenty years by now. They are displayed in Tiffany boxes. Only the best will do…

The sun and moon ornaments again, this time combined with a painted bauble in a small bowl. The ornament matches the the colour of the little jewelry box. This is a wonderful display for a night table.

Then there’s the contemporary ornaments, mostly baubles, that come and go like fashion trends. These stay in the collection until I get tired of them. There’s a wide variety of colours. I use some of them every year to put together a vignette. It’s the fastest way to bring some Christmas atmosphere into any space.

The collection above is a bit of everything. The pink angel is very old world, there’s some contemporary hand blown stars and baubles on a blue plate. These displays are a fast way to bring a bit of Christmas atmosphere into the house, and it does not make a mess.

Depending on the ornaments, I also like to mix them with elements from nature. A mix and match platter of real pinecones mixed with ornaments can be seen here.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the world had to say goodbye to an icon this year. The Notorious RBG Ornament is available here. In my opinion it’s an ornament that could decorate an office year round.
