Red – The Ultimate Christmas Colour
The red colour’s meaning is associated with excitement, passion, danger, energy, and action. You might’ve noticed that some brands use red for ‘order now’ buttons or for their packaging as a way to stand out on the shelf. In color psychology, red is the most intense color. And thus, can provoke the strongest emotions.
Red is by far the most popular colour during Christmas time. The appearance of red is a sign, that Christmas is near. And when you walk around town you see it everywhere! In shop windows and inside the shops, on advertising banners, bus ads, of course Santa, and the list goes on. Below you find a few ideas from seasons past.
Presents Wrapped in Red
The lady carries a stack of presents wrapped in the same paper style but with different patterns.
Above on the left is a box wrapped in white and silver striped paper. The box has a light grey satin ribbon tied around. And before tying the bow, a loosely bunched up piece of silver tissue paper was added for some drama.
The present in the foreground contains a gift certificate. The red wrapping and brown ribbon is simple but stylish. I love the retro style gift tag with silver glitter accents.
These two gift wrapping ideas are from 2008. The box above was wrapped with orange tissue paper. Then a wide luxurious ribbon was wrapped around the box and a beautiful bow tied to finish it. To add a bit of pizzazz two large jingle bells adorn the creation.
The gift below is for a person who love to play cards. It’s wrapped in red, and tied with a dual-coloured ribbon. At the end just add as many playing cards as desired.
The Christmas Tree with Red Accents
Red on our Christmas tree will never go out of style. It just gives you that feeling of coziness when it’s wet and cold outside. This tree here however was a mix of white ornaments and red bows and candles. The white ornaments are mostly vintage handblown and painted decorations from Germany. Every time I break one, it hurts… I have since found a way to preserve the broken glass ornaments. Please check it out here. The golden mice are chocolates my sister-in-laws sends us every year. They are by far the best Christmas tree chocolates!

By the way, I buy all my ribbons at a treasured fabric store here in town. They also have a very large ribbon section. You can find any colour or material you desire, and things you did not know exist. Often, when I walk by the store I go inside to see if a fabric or a ribbon inspires me to create something. The result of one such visit turned out to become an Advent calendar.
