Lights to the Lodge

Due to Covid the 2020 Christmas season required much more planning than usual. We could not just rock up to an event or activity without having made prior reservations. And of course spots to anything were limited.

What turned out to be my favorite Advent calendar activity was the Lights to the Lodge on Cypress Mountain. And the weather that evening could not have been better. It was clear night, and everything was covered in snow. Just magical!

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Robert Frost  (1874-1963)

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

After every bend, behind each little hill appeared a new vignette.

The snow beautifully reflected all colours. It was just magical.

This is Hollyburn Lodge. There’s a lot of cross country ski trails in that area.

The way back to the car park lead us through a different part of the forest.

The entire experience was like a dream.

Check out the activity calendars in your area. You may find something similar, such as a public park or garden that’s all decked out with lights and ornaments for the season.
