Christmas Spirit
|
Inspirations Carpe Diem The grand essentials in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value. Win without boasting. Lose without excuse. Those who stand for nothing fall for anything. Creative minds have always been known to survive any kind of bad training. Your destiny does not write itself. The real measure of a man's wealth is what he has invested in eternity. Millions of men have lived to fight, build palaces and boundaries, shape destinies and societies; but the compelling force of all times has been the force of originality and creation profoundly affecting the roots of human spirit. We shall find peace. We shall hear angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds. The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible. Wise sayings often fall on barren ground; but a kind word is never thrown away. Grab a chance and you won't be sorry for a might have been. A word of appreciation often can accomplish what nothing else could accomplish. Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart... filled it, too, with melody that would last forever. Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Christmas is a time when you get homesick - even when you are home. I love the Christmas-tide, and yet,
I notice this, each year I live;
I always like the gifts I get,
But how I love the gifts I give! Even as an adult I find it difficult to sleep on Christmas Eve. Yuletide excitement is as potent as caffeine, no matter your age. There seems a magic in the very name of Christmas. But I am sure that I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round... as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely. I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Never write a letter while you are angry. Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality. How you spend your time is more important than how you spend your money. Money mistakes can be corrected, but time is gone forever. Leadership is an action, not a position. Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears. There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. Our patience will achieve more than our force. By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. No object is mysterious. The mystery is in your eye. Do not give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, you can not go wrong. The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work. We never know the worth of water 'til the well is dry. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for. Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again. In charity there is no excess. Peace, like charity, begins at home. There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience. Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skill to do difficult things easily. Keep true to the dreams of your youth. Never measure your generosity by what you give, but rather by what you have left. Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure. Come to the edge, He said. They said, We are afraid. Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love. The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone. When you know that you are capable of dealing with whatever comes, you have the only security the world has to offer. Peace on earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas every day. Goodness is the only investment that never fails. You can not build a reputation on what you are going to do. It is good to think well; it is divine to act well. Enthusiasm moves the world. A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd. We have all been placed on this earth to discover our own path, and we will never be happy if we live someone else's idea of life. In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities. One kind word can warm three winter months. Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare. The best things in life are free - and they are also priceless. All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own. The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities; but to know someone here and there who thinks and feels with us, and though distant, is close to us in spirit - this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden. Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. The true test of intelligence is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we do not know what to do. Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. Remember
This December,
That love weighs more than gold! Nature does not demand that we be perfect. It requires only that we grow. Without darkness,
there are no dreams. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. There are two things to aim at in life: first to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second. Politeness is an easy virtue, costs little, and has great purchasing power. You must be the change you wish to see in the world. Putting pen to paper lights more fire than matches ever will. A house is no home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as for the body. The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great ones make you feel that you too, can become great. In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. What one loves in childhood stays in the heart forever. If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded. If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. We do not inherit the earth from our parents. We borrow it from our children. Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. Failure will never overtake you, as long as your desire to succeed is strong enough. Everyone wants to ride with you in the limo, but what you need is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. All men who have achieved great things have been great dreamers. One should always play fairly when one has the winning cards. To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. If you want to know your past life, look into your present condition; if you want to know your future, look into your present action. Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. Life is long to the miserable, but short to the happy. Many eyes go through the meadow, but few see the flowers in it. When it is dark enough,
you can see the stars. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. It takes a person who is wide awake to make his dream come true. He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living, the other helps you make a life. Our care should not be to have lived long as to have lived enough. Writing comes more easily if you have something to say. As we give, we live. If I have made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention than to any other talent. Anger manages everything badly. The best things you can give children, next to good habits, are good memories. To know you have enough is to be rich. Life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by so quick you hardly catch it going. Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them. The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people. Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile is the source of your joy. Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody is watching. A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. Few things are created and perfected at the same moment. Patience is a virtue. He who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree. Time is precious. Use it wisely. He who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree. We are judged by what we finish, not what we start. Too often we are so preoccupied with the destination, we forget the journey. Kindness is like snow; it makes everything it covers beautiful. The power to change tomorrow is held in the decision we make today. It is better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done. If there is no joyous way to give a festive gift, give love away. Yesterday is the past,
Tomorrow is the future,
Today is a gift.
That is why we call it the present. Snowflakes are kisses from heaven. If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always got. If you have a good friend, you don't need a mirror. We do not need more to be thankful for, we need to be more thankful. If you do not climb the mountain,
you can not see the view. Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent. Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together. Think for yourself and let others enjoy the privilege of doing so too. It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you can not do. Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart. To speak ill of others is a dishonest way of praising ourselves. We can choose to throw stones,
To stumble on them,
To climb over them or
To build with them. It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking which, more than anything else, will determine its outcome. Destiny is not a matter of chance; it's a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. |
