Flower Arranging

Flowers by Design

Flowers by Design

Jeff Leatham

A former fashion model turned floral designer, Leatham does the flowers for the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, as well as for a star-studded roster of clients that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Emanuel Ungaro and Kate Moss. His novel techniques include displaying flowers out of water, bending long stems inside clear glass vases for dramatic effect and "drowning" blossoms in water so that their shapes and patterns are magnified. One of his favorite tricks is to take a tall vase and balance a clump of flowers near its opening so that the bunch appears ready to tip out of the container. His emphasis on "sculptural shapes" and "bold statements" will inspire readers to rethink the way they display flowers in their own homes.

Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart

Nikki Tibbles, Martyn Thompson

The spaces in which we live and work, and the individual elements within them, are increasingly used to reflect our mood, character and identity. "Wild at Heart" is a unique creative collaboration between Nikki Tibbles and Martyn Thompson, showing how flowers can create evocative and personal statements.

Structured according to five individual moods – pure, mysterious, chaotic, feminine and sensuous – each section suggest how individual flowers can capture them.

Living with Flowers

Nico De Swert

Nico De Swert's fantastic floral arrangements are anything but traditional bouquets. They are more likely to resemble the bustle of an haute couture evening gown, an art installation, or an abstract explosion of colors and textures. Shunning traditional romantic floral design and instead striving for gorgeous artifice, De Swert challenges the viewer to see flowers and plants in a new light: as a medium, much like fabric or paint, for creating art.

The Floral Decorator

The Floral Decorator

Kenneth Turner

Turner's cardinal rule is that you should not make "nice" arrangements but rather make floral artwork that will captivate and inspire. Turner offers readers tips for acquiring not only basic skills like drying and potting but also advanced design techniques. His advice on how to keep decorations looking natural is particularly useful (don't scatter flowers individually in an arrangement, for instance, but rather bunch the same or similar flowers and colors together; after all, that's how they look in the garden).

The Art of Floral Design and Decoration

Kenneth Turner

Invite to your home an international floral designer who's famous for creating movement and surprise in his designs. Follow his simple instructions, and bring his magic into any room, on any occasion. Delightful original designs appear in breathtaking oversize, double-paged photos that show you the dramatic effects of the completed projects, while each step toward getting there appears in clear close-up captioned illustrations. Turner incorporates found and natural objects into his work, which is often why his arrangements are impressively large. Become inspired to capture the spirit of an Italian garden, a tropical paradise, a Venetian palace, a masked ball--you get so many moods and styles to choose from. Table settings, for example, range from a lavish dinner party to an intimate evening, and its themes can spill into the rest of the room and throughout the house. The same vitality appears in the many designs for all seasons and holidays.
