A Collection of Beautiful Things

Through Google alerts I came across Mary Ann's gorgeous Advent calendar. I instantly fell in love with the piece probably because it looks so delicate with those soft colors she used. She explains how she made it.

I took a pre-primed stretched canvas (16" x 20") and put a light coat of "linen" acrylic paint on it. Then i hot glued a silk turquoise ribbon around the perimeter of the canvas to hide the staples. Prepare a rectangular piece of foam core to fit the backside of the canvas.

For the 24 daily cards I used cream colored luggage tags and hand stamped all but four. With my vintage number foam stamps I stamped each tag with a number in walnut ink. The tags were adorned with turquoise, blue, silver, cream, white and gold holiday found objects from my stash, such as mini-ornaments, metallic pipe cleaner, mini-stars and hearts, buttons, candlesticks, key and ribbon. I just arranged the ephemera items until it looked aesthetically pleasing. The tags were hung with straight pins.

The Advent calendar can either be hung on a wall or stand on surface leaning against a wall.

I had a fun time creating this... when I look at it, it brings a smile to my heart.
