If you have to travel for business or pleasure during the holiday season, pack an ornament or two to give your hotel room some Christmas atmosphere.
General
- Write a to-do-list.
- Get travel insurance unless your credit card fully covers everything.
- Check the expiry date of your credit cards.
- Write a packing list.
- Find a house sitter.
- Make sure your pets are taken care of as well.
Traveling by air
- Airlines have luggage restrictions. Check with your airline or travel agent regarding the allowance of checked and carry-on luggage; amount of free pieces, weight, and size.
- Label and mark your luggage, including your carry on. Use sturdy luggage labels. Also label your luggage on the inside.
- Include a copy of your itinerary with your home and vacation address inside your luggage.
- Confirm your flight.
- Check online if your flight is on time.
- Check in early! Confirmed seats are not held forever. If the flight is oversold, late shows will have to be re-booked on a later flight or on an alternate route.
Traveling abroad
- Check the expiry date of your passport and credit cards.
- Check for visa and vaccination requirements.
- Do not wrap any gifts in order for customs personnel to inspect it.
Customs wrap
Three ideas on how to still wrap your gifts if you bring them to a foreign country.
- Wrap the present loosely with tissue paper and put in a gift bag.
- Use gift boxes without tying a ribbon around it.
- Or wrap a box with gift wrap. Do not tape the paper but instead use rubber bands or strings to temporarily hold the paper in place. Carry a small tape dispenser and ribbon in your luggage. At your destination, take off the rubber bands or strings, tape the wrapping paper in place and if desired adorn the gift with a nice ribbon.
