Urbanizing the Alpine Look

When I was a kid it was very popular to have all kinds of goodies laid out on the table as decoration. It usually consisted of small red apples, mandarins, peanuts, walnuts, chocolates in colored wrappers, and a selection of Christmas cookies, all nestled in little fir tree boughs. The way it was done, had a very rustic look and might not be suitable for a dinner party today. But since this is a cost effective and fast way of giving your dinner table a festive look, try this more elegant approach. Instead of just laying the decorative food items on the table arrange everything in nice little containers. Fill a small bowl with nuts, another with chocolates, fill an olive tray with cookies, arrange a pyramid with small apples and one with mandarins on a plate. Don't forget to include a few candle sticks as well for a festive touch.

This decoration lends itself to highlight just one color as well. For an orange version use mandarins, kumquats, orange candles and chocolates wrapped in orange or gold foil.
