family tradition for us.

When the Queen comes to dinner

During the year our house is a busy house and even more so during the holiday season of Christmas. A few years ago I decided to do something special for my family. Our girls were still young and I did not think that it would become a family tradition, but it has.

Late Christmas Eve, once all the kids are in bed and the presents have emerged from their hiding places I set the table. Not the kitchen table, our dining room table, using my special china, the ones that I have told my kids we will only use when the Queen comes to dinner. I take care to place each setting just perfect and set crystal glasses instead of the usual Tupperware. Candles are placed in the centerpiece and the napkins are placed just right beside each plate. I then get the breakfast ingredients ready and set the coffee to brew. Breakfast on Christmas morning consists of crepes and pudding. Then, I go to bed.

The first time I decided to surprise my family with this special breakfast they could not believe it! Our youngest was only one and she even had a china setting of her own. The girls of course were sidetracked by the gifts under the tree but later thoroughly enjoyed the special breakfast time that we had together.

This has now become a special family tradition for us. My girls are now entering their teenage years and look forward to this special Christmas Breakfast with us. It makes them feel special and we do as well.

You don't need china or crystal ware to make this special for your family, just personalize it in a way that you do when the Queen comes to dinner!
