Sunday Bread

Sunday bread

This is a traditional bread enjoyed in Switzerland on Sundays for breakfast. It tastes best when served with honey, a variety of delicious cheeses, and maybe a soft boiled egg.

Ingredients

1 kg flour
150 grams butter
16 grams dry yeast
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons sugar
4 1/2 dl milk
2 eggs
1 egg for glaze

Preparation

Place the flour and salt in a bowl. Warm up the milk to room temperature, then add the yeast and sugar. Melt the butter, beat the eggs and mix it into the milk. Then incorporate all ingredients, and kneed it to a soft dough. Place the dough in a bowl, cover it with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for about 1 hour.
Cut the dough in half. Form each half to a long roll. Then lay the rolls out in front of you in a "x". Braid the bread.

Place the bread onto a baking sheet, cover again with a damp cloth, and let it raise one more time.
Glaze the bread with an egg. Bake at 180°C for 40 to 50 minutes.
