Spiced Honey Cookies (Honig Läckerli)

spiced honey cookies

Ingredients

300 grams honey
200 grams brown sugar
200 grams ground walnuts
50 grams candied orange peel
50 grams candied lemon peel
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
1 pinch ground ginger
2 tablespoons Kirsch (cherry brandy)
350-400 grams flour

Glaze

100 grams powdered sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Kirsch (cherry brandy)

Preparation

Heat up the honey and the sugar. Add the rest of the ingredients to the liquid, mix well and knead. Roll out the warm dough about 8 mm thick and cut out rectangles (about 4 by 6 cm). Place the cookies onto buttered baking sheet and let them dry for one hour. Afterwards bake cookies at 180°C for 6 to 10 minutes.
Place the hot cookies onto a rack and glaze them before they get cold.
