An Idea for Parents or Godparents

cute Christmas tree ornaments

My mom started a Christmas tradition in 1960, the year I was born. She chose an ornament and wrote my initials and the year on the bottom of it in indelible ink. The next year, I was alert enough to point out a shiny red one that captivated me, and again, she initialed and dated it. Eventually I had a sister, Brenda, and a brother, Conrad, and every year, we three looked forward to picking out our ornaments.

I was the first to move out of the house. The first Christmas I went home to celebrate, under the tree was a box with all my ornaments. I took them with me, and now my siblings and I (my mother did this for them too) each have a cherished collection of ornaments.

This is not my story, but I find it very sweet and inspiring. And you don’t need to be a parent to create mementos for the years to come.
